They espoused a version of democracy which to this day is generally accepted as the best type of government structure as it allows for participation of the people in general. Greece has a lot of contribution to society and some of them are not as well known as others. Many contributions are well known such as the Socratic method of teaching and other things of cultural significance. However, there are a lot of other things that Greece has contributed in society. Lesvos is one of the places where a lot of things that are known in society comes from.

Lesvos is big island in Greece and is in fact the third biggest. Lesvos is a volcanic island and was therefore created from such. This also makes the soil rich and bountiful and ideal for land based products. In fact, the island has a wide variety of flora despite its size. A large chunk of its area is covered with olive trees and other fruit trees. This makes the place a natural wonder in itself. Lesvos also have a lot of hot springs which contributes to the atmosphere of general well being in the island. Many people find them as something of a bonus when going to Lesvos. Lesvos also has two mountain peaks and one of them is the famous Mount Olympus. As we all know, Mount Olympus is said to be the home of the Greek gods. This makes Lesvos an especially significant place to go to.

Lesvos is also the place where the word "Lesbian" is derived from. This does not mean that many lesbians inhabit the place however. It is said that a poet named Sappho wrote poems that invoke strong feelings of love towards other women and since she was born in Lesvos, the word evolved from there and became associated with women loving women.
