Your choice of hotel would of course depend on what region of Athens you would like to stay in. Many luxury hotels can be found near Syntagma Square, said to be the heart of modern Athens. One of the most well-known, and consequently one of the most expensive, is Hotel Grande Bretagne, located across the Constitution (Syntagma) Square and the House of Parliament. An elegant and classic old hotel, it has housed various international dignitaries and movie celebrities. Within the same region and price range is King George II Palace, who has also served as a home to royalties, presidents and celebrities.

Although Syntagma Square is the hub of Athens, not all hotels in this area are of the luxury kind. Hotel Achilleas, a two-minute walk from the Syntagma Square has reopened in 2001 after complete renovation. The price of rooms here are cheaper by about three-quarters than that of the luxury hotels mentioned earlier. However, style and comfort are Hotel Achilleas’ strengths, which make it a popular choice for those who are more cautious in their spending for accommodation. John’s Place is even more of a budget hotel so the facilities are not that complete. All in all, John’s Place is a value for your money.

Many tourists also prefer to stay in Plaka, the oldest section in Athens and nestled at the foothills of Acropolis. The most luxurious property in this region is the Electra Palace Hotel, a 5-star hotel with designs reminiscent of the classical era. Its amenities include a restaurant, pool, Jacuzzi and spa treatments. A cheaper alternative in Plaka is Hotel Plaka, three-star and is about five minutes from the Syntagma Square. The rooms are spacious and have wooden floors.

Those who wish to escape the business of the main city of Athens and would like to have a view of the sea may go to Vouliagmeni. The Divani Apollon Palace and Spa is a luxury resort with a spectacular beachfront setting. Quite expensive, although a little less than its counterparts in Syntagma Square, it is located in the most exclusive place of the Athenian Riviera. This hotel particularly boasts of its state-of-the-art spa and thalassotherapy center. A strong competitor is the Arion Hotel Astir Palace, a 5-star resort, with a spectacular view of the Vouliagmeni Bay. Most suites have balconies that look through the cool blue Aegean Sea. Armonia Hotel is cheaper and farther away from the sea (only 100 m from the Vouliagmeni Beach). Nevertheless, comfort is never compromised and guests can enjoy a relaxing and quiet atmosphere.
